MOMumental Mom of the Week
Uncategorized — By admin on November 26, 2008 at 9:43 amOur First MOMumental Grand-Mom of the Week!
Name: Norma
City: The Colony
Marital Status: Married
Children: Paul (50), John (49), Michael (48), Philip (46), Martha (44), Elizabeth (42), Rebekah (37), Rachel – would have been 35 this year but died when she was just 35 days old. I also have 7 grandchildren with two due in the spring.
Occupation: Retired. Worked as a nurse for 52 years (as a RN for 49 of those), then as a nanny for my two grandboys in Plano for 3 years. Now I am just “Grandma”.
What was the last movie you saw?: On a DVD, “Meet Me in St. Louis” with Judy Garland. I don’t care for movies in the theater; I usually watch the old classics at home.
What is sitting on your bedside table right now?: My 14-lb cat (Sundance, brother to Butch), and a lamp. If I put anything else on the table he knocks it off. (He knocks the lamp off sometimes, too, but I put it back because I need it to read at night.)
What is the last meal you cooked from scratch and when?: I cook meals all of the time.
What are three products you can’t live without?: I can live without anything except electricity, running water, and trash pickup. I grew up without any of these and let me tell you, you don’t want to go back to that!
If you could put one product on the market today, what would it be?: Teleportation (See Star Trek) so I could go see all of my grandkids any time I wanted.
What is your definition of success?: Success is if you can pay your bills and raise your family and be a good citizen.
What do you do in your “me” time?: I have plenty of “me” time since I’m retired. Usually, I play cards, do crossword puzzles, or watch “Murder She Wrote” or “Monk” on TV….if I’m not playing with grandkids.
How are you different today than you thought you’d be at this point in your life?: I never thought I would see the century change…so I am 8 years beyond where I thought I’d be and they’ve just been icing on the cake.
If an expectant mother asked you “what it’s like to be a Mom”, what would you tell her? It is the greatest thing in the world and will be for the rest of your life. Being a grandmother is even better.
